Happy Spring! May is a busy time at the Waldo Burton Boys Home as we prepare for the end of the school year and the arrival of our summer program. As many know, we never close and provide enrichment, educational resources, and life skills for our residents year-round. This May, we will be making our final push to improve grades and to prepare of what is expected to be a packed summer with fun and learning.

May is also a time for “Spring” cleaning. Every boy at Waldo Burton has a job and we all pitch in to keep the Home looking great. One of the many compliments I hear when giving tours is how the Home and grounds are well kept and beautiful. I smile, because I know it is a team effort. In addition to all the good works happening at Waldo Burton, we emphasize giving back. We embrace a “Men for Others” philosophy and all know no job is too small if it benefits the betterment of the person next to you.

Pretty soon we will roll into our summer program. This is a time filled with daily reading lab time, educational enrichment with career days, and many activities and outings to museums, sporing events, and recreation opportunities. We visit parks, go bowling, golfing, and swimming, as well as have yard games and movie nights. The summer is a time to relax, while making sure that we are prepared for the Fall school semester. We also continue our life skills building work and learn about core values such as; integrity, accountability, confidence, adaptability, and appreciation.

We also welcome our seasonal summer staff. Each year we invite college students to work with our boys over the summer. This is time for our residents to learn from other young men and women about what it is like to be a healthy young adult.

Thanks for taking a few minutes to read about the “Good Stuff” going on at the Waldo Burton Boys Home. I welcome you to take a closer look at our website and to give us a call or email if you have any questions or would like a tour.

With gratitude,

Dr. Alex
